Mardi Gras is a well-celebrated holiday, most especially in New Orleans. A lot of things happen during this day and the traditional food is one of the stars. One of my favorites is the King Cake. King Cake is a braided pastry made with a rich yeast dough that is filled with a sweet cinnamon mixture and topped with brightly colored gold, green and purple icing. This is what everyone usually bakes for the holiday. But, for a change, I wanted to bake a cupcake version of this. Luckily, there is a super easy recipe online.
These Mardi Gras cupcakes are moist and tender, with a flavor combination of butter and vanilla. To fit the occasion, these cupcakes are colored with the festive Mardi Gras colors: gold, purple, and green. Then, they are made even better with a delicious vanilla buttercream frosting. Finally, top with gold, purple, and green sprinkles for more colors!
