A cream cheese frosting consists of cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract for flavoring, and milk as a thinning ingredient. In making a frosting, all ingredients must be at room temperature, otherwise, they won't incorporate well. As for the flavoring, you can use other kinds, like almond extract. You can also make a chocolate cream cheese frosting by adding some cocoa powder into the frosting. While for the milk, it's used to thin out the frosting if it gets too thick. Add a tablespoon at a time to control the consistency of the frosting.
